1/2 c Crushed candy canes

Melt the 3 kinds of chocolate in 3 separate bowls. Stir half of the crushed candy into the semisweet chocolate. Reserve a bit for sprinkling; stir the remainder into the milk and white chocolates. Christmas Leftover Recipe From The Best Christmas Blog Day 3

As the title says this is day three of the Christmas Leftovers week. Today here at The Best Christmas Blog, I want to bring you a dessert recipe. Cranberry sauce is like a Christmas tradition so I’m sure many of you had cranberry sauce at your Christmas dinners and may have some leftover.

Well here’s a recipe that will allow you to use up that leftover cranberry sauce. It is for Cranberry Brownie Pie. Hope you like it.

Ingredients:

* 4 (1 oz.) squares unsweetened chocolate
* 2/3 cup butter (1 stick plus 2 Tbsp.)
* 2 cups sugar
* 4 eggs
* 1-1/4 cups flour
* 1 tsp. baking powder
* 1/2 tsp. salt
* 3/4 cup heavy cream, whipped
* 3 Tbsp. powdered sugar
* 1 cup whole berry cranberry sauce
* 1/2 cup chopped pecans
* 1/3 cup hot fudge sauce

Preparation:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 10" springform pan and an 8x8" square pan and set aside. Melt unsweetened chocolate and butter together in a heavy saucepan over low heat, stirring frequently until blended and smooth. Remove from heat; beat in the sugar and eggs until smooth. Add flour, baking powder and salt and mix well.

Spread half of the batter in a greased 10" springform pan, and the other in a greased 8x8" square pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes, until just set. Don't overbake these! If they are underbaked a bit, that's just fine. The springform pan brownies will probably bake faster than the square pan brownies because they will be thinner, so check frequently. Cool both completely.

Cut the brownies in the 8" square pan into cubes. In large bowl, beat cream with powdered sugar until stiff; fold in cranberry sauce. Spoon half of this mixture over the springform pan brownies. Top with half of the brownie cubes and half of the pecans. Repeat layers. Drizzle with hot fudge sauce. Chill for a few hours in the refrigerator, then cut into wedges. 12 servings

In small bowl combine chopped tomatoes and basil. Spoon this mixture over the hot sandwiches and serve immediately. Serves 6-8

A Christmas Leftover Recipe From The Best Christmas Blog

Well Christmas is finally over and here at The Best Christmas Blog there is hope that you enjoyed having your friends and family over. You fixed a lot of food and not all of it was eaten so it looks like there will be some leftovers for a while. You could just heat them up and serve them to the family as is or you could do something different with those leftovers.

If you have leftover ham here’s a recipe that will delight your family. It’s a Ham Filo Roll.

Ingredients:

* 2 Tbsp. olive oil
* 1 onion, chopped
* 2 cloves garlic, minced
* 1 cup basmati rice, uncooked
* 2 cups chicken broth
* 1 cup cubed cooked ham
* 1/2 cup bottled Alfredo sauce
* 1 cup frozen baby peas, thawed OR chopped leftover asparagus
* 1/3 cup butter, melted
* 16 (9" x 14") sheets frozen filo dough, thawed
* 1-1/2 cups shredded Havarti cheese, divided

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Cook onion and garlic in the olive oil until tender. Add rice and stir to coat. Add the chicken broth, cover pan and simmer for 15-20 minutes until rice is tender. Stir in ham, Alfredo sauce, 1/2 cup of the cheese, and asparagus or peas. Set aside.

Place one filo sheet on a cookie sheet and brush with butter. Layer seven more filo over the first sheet, brushing each with butter. Spread half of the rice and ham mixture over one-third of the stacked filo on the 14" side, leaving a 1 inch border on three sides. Cover with the half of the remaining cheese.

Begin to roll up the filo, starting with the long end. You'll only be able to roll the dough over one and a half times; that's okay. Using two spatulas, place on a RIMMED cookie sheet (the butter will melt and make a mess in your oven if you don't used a rimmed sheet). Brush with butter and cut a few slits in the filo roll. Repeat with remaining filo, butter, and filling to make two rolls.

At this point you can cover the rolls tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate up to 8 hours. Add another 8-13 minutes to the baking time if the rolls are baked directly from the refrigerator.

Bake for 25 to 35 minutes until the rolls are browned and crisp. Let it stand for 10 minutes before cutting each roll into thirds for serving. The filling is hot! Serves 4-6

This is an easy egg and sausage strata that you make the night before you can pop it in the oven then open presents and you can have after all the gifts are unwrapped. Enjoy this Christmas breakfast recipe.

Ingredients

* 1 lb. (500 g) sausage meat, any kind
* 1 onion, chopped
* 1 loaf egg or other hearty bread, sliced (day old is fine)
* 4 cups (1 L) shredded cheese, any kind (a mixture is fine)
* 5 eggs, beaten
* 3 cups (750 mL) milk
* 1 tbsp. (15 mL) Dijon mustard
* 1 tsp. (5 mL) salt

* 2 medium tomatoes, sliced
* 1/3 cup (75 mL) grated Parmesan cheese

Cooking Instructions

1. Grease a 9x13-inch (23x 33-cm) baking dish.
2. Remove the sausage meat from the casing into a skillet. Add onions and cook over medium heat, stirring, until the sausage is lightly browned and the onions are softened. Set aside.
3. Place a layer of bread slices into the prepared baking dish, cutting them so that they cover the bottom completely. Sprinkle with half of the cooked sausage mixture, then one-third of the shredded cheese. Now add a second layer of bread slices, the remaining sausage mixture, and another one-third of the shredded cheese. Finally, add a third layer of bread and all the remaining shredded cheese.
4. In a bowl, beat together eggs, milk, mustard, salt and cayenne. Pour over the layers in the baking dish and cover with plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 6 hours or overnight.
5. When you're ready to cook, remove the plastic, arrange the tomato slices on top and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Bake at 350 degrees F (180 degrees C) for 50 to 60 minutes, until puffed in the middle and a knife poked into it comes out clean.

Christmas Freebies Day At The Best Christmas Blog

It's another Christmas freebies day at The Best Christmas Blog and today our freebie is a free Elf pattern for recycling a light bulb into a Christmas Elf. First of all here is where you can get your free pattern, Click Here.

Now here are the instructions on how to create you Christmas Elf.

Supply List:

~ One burned out light bulb
~ acrylic craft paint in white, medium green, dark green, brown, red, white, flesh tone and gold
~ paint brushes
~ 2 green chenille stems or small amount of green felt to make a hat
~ rubbing alcohol
~ brass bell for hat trim
~ hot glue or craft glue
~ free printable elf pattern

Instructions:

1. Clean the light bulb thoroughly with rubbing alcohol to help the paint adhere to the glass.

2. Paint the bulb in a base coat of white, let dry, and repeat.

3. Using our free printable elf pattern as a guide, use a pencil to sketch the elf freehand onto the bulb. Use the photo to help position the top and the bottom of the pattern, and to help with the following painting instructions:

4. Paint the face, arms, and legs in flesh tone.

5. Paint the tunic sleeves, a line just below the elf's chin, and his outside pant legs in medium green.

6. Paint the tunic body in dark green as shown. Paint the lightbulb screw top in dark green as well.

7. Add a circlet of white at each ankle and outline the shoes in white. Also outline the bow tie in white.

8. Paint inside of bow tie and shoes in red, and when dry add white lace lines to the shoes and polka dots to the tie.

9. Use the dark green to add creases to the pant legs in circular sweeps to suggest folds in the material and to highlight the jagged edges and folds of the tunic sleeves.

10. In narrow lines, using a fine brush and brown paint, add the hand details with fingers, and paint in the face. Add a small amount of red to accent the mouth. Fill in the eye shapes with white, and add round brown irises. Accent each iris with a dot of white to add sparkle to the eyes. Paint in brown hair.

11. Using gold metallic paint, dot in two gold buttons on the tunic, and paint the remainder of the bulb in gold.

12. Wind the chenille stems around the screw top, leaving enough length on the end to form the top of the elf's hat, which hangs to one side. Use hot glue or craft glue to secure. You could also make a simple felt hat to use instead of the chenille stems. Whatever your choice, glue a circle of thread to the back of the hat to hang your Christmas elf lightbulb ornament from the tree. Finish by gluing a brass bell to the hat.

I hope you enjoy this. Have Fun!

Christmas Activities For Adults From The Best Christmas Blog

Usually Wednesdays here at The Best Christmas Blog is dedicated to pointing you to Christmas activities for kids. However today I want to do something different and point you to some Christmas activities for adults.

Today let me direct your attention to LoveToKnow where you will find adult game ideas both naughty and nice. Here are a couple of examples of the type of games you will find at LoveToKnow.

Pair o’ Carolers

1. Count off an even number of people. Large groups work well for this game.
2. Write down the name of a popular Christmas carol on two slips of paper.
3. Put all the slips into a bag, and ask everyone to draw for one.
4. When the individuals draw their slip, they can’t show it to anyone. But they do have to start humming the song written on the paper.
5. People then walk up to other people in search of the other person humming their tune.
6. Once a matched pair find one another, they need to start singing the Christmas song loudly in front of everyone else, and they are the winners!
7. Designate as many winners as you like, and present them with a small token of goodies.

Punch Flip

1. Can be done with alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks, but some group members may enjoy a spiked punch flip more.
2. Divide the group into two teams on either side of a long table.
3. Set out a row of plastic cups in front of the players.
4. Line the players up in front of the cups.
5. At “go”, the players drain the cups as fast as they can, and set them mouthpiece down on the table.
6. Players then try to flip the cups right-side up. The first team to flip all their cups upright wins.

Go check out LoveToKnow for some adult Christmas fun. For some more intimate fun you might want to check out the The Naughty, Naughty Christmas Kit

A Thanksgiving Dessert Recipe From The Best Christmas Blog

Yesterday I gave you a Thanksgiving ham recipe. Today on The Best Christmas Blog I want to give you a dessert recipe to go with it. Thanksgiving and cranberries seem to go together. Well, here's a different way to serve cranberries. How about as a pudding.

This is a baked cranberry pudding recipe that I hope you will enjoy.

Ingredients:
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 eggs, separated
half cup whipping cream
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
half teaspoon ground nutmeg
1and half cups all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons grated orange peel
1 teaspoon baking powder
half teaspoon cream of tartar, divided
One eighth teaspoon salt
3 cups coarsely chopped fresh cranberries
One fourth cup butter or margarine, melted

Topping :
1 and half cups sugar
half cup orange juice
2 and half cups whole cranberries

Preparation:
In a bowl, combine brown sugar and egg yolks, then add whipping cream, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg; set aside. In a large bowl, combine flour, orange peel, baking powder, quarter teaspoon cream of tartar and salt. Add chopped cranberries; stir to completely coat. Add brown sugar mixture and butter; mix well. Beat egg whites until foamy. Add the remaining cream of tartar. Fold into batter. Pour into a greased pan. Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 to 50 minutes.

Meanwhile, for topping, bring sugar and orange juice to a boil in a saucepan. Cook for 3 minutes or until sugar dissolves. Reduce heat; add cranberries and simmer for 6 to 8 minutes or until berries begin to burst. Remove from heat and cover.

When pudding tests done, place spring form pan on a jelly roll pan. Spread warm cranberry sauce over top. Return to the oven for 10 minutes. Cool for 10 minutes before removing sides of springform pan. Cool at least 1 hour or overnight. Before serving, reheat at 350 degrees F for 10 minutes.

The Best Christmas Blog's Best Thanksgiving Recipe

With Thanksgiving right around the corner I thought I'd bring you a good Thanksgiving recipe here on The Best Christmas Blog. I wanted to break away from the traditional turkey recipe that you see all over the place so I decided to give you ham recipe with a little difference.

This is a baked ham recipe with a fruit marinade. This recipe will serve 10 to 12 people. Enjoy!

Ingredients:
2 cups fresh Pineapple, chopped
1 1/2 cups Baking Apple, chopped
2 Oranges, peeled, sectioned, and chopped
1/4 cup fresh Basil, minced
2 Tbs. Onion, finely chopped
2 Tbs. fresh Lime Juice
1/4 tsp. ground Cumin
1/8 tsp. Cayenne Pepper
4-lb. cooked boneless Ham
Preparation :
Prepare the fruit mixture, combining the pineapple, apple, oranges, basil, onion, lime juice, cumin, and cayenne pepper in a large bowl. Cover and refrigerate for up to 2 days, and be sure to allow ham to marinate for at least 4 hours prior to baking and serving.

Place ham on a rack in a shallow baking pan. Score the top in a diamond pattern. Insert a meat thermometer. Bake, uncovered, in a 325-F degree oven for 1 1/2 to 2 hours, or until thermometer registers 140-F degrees.

To serve, slice ham and pour a hearty line of the fruit mixture over the row of slices. You may serve any leftover fruit mixture as a compote, on the side.

The Best Christmas Blog 2009

Well it's time again to open “The Best Christmas Blog”. This year as always there will be Christmas recipes, free Christmas activities for the kids and adults, funny videos and more.

This year I also want to do something a little different and that is offer gift ideas. If you look at my sidebar you will see a section at the top that has gift ideas. In this first post of 2009 I want to start with a gift idea.

One of the most popular items around this year is the netbooks. I just got me one and I absolutely love it, as a matter of fact I'm using it to write this post.

The netbook I have is the Acer Aspire and so far it has been great. It's lightweight and small and I take it with me whenever I need to.

You can get the Acer AOD250-1695 10.1-Inch Netbook with Windows 7 Starter at Amazon for $299 right now.

If you're looking for the perfect gift for someone special you can't go wrong with the Acer Aspire. You even want to get one for yourself and really make this your best Christmas.
